The weekend was fun — Kathy took me on a date to the Morris-Butler House for the Victorian Xmas Celebration — it was cool. The have people in period clothes singing Christmas carols, and you see what dinner would have been like, and then they do a reading of “Twas the Night Before Xmas.” You get to make a traditional victorian Xmas ornament, and help bake some sugar cookies on the authentic stove, then you go to the outside stove for some hot apple cider that was really really good, so I had seconds. The house is nice, and it’s nice to know they’re still working on restoring it. I don’t feel so bad about mine, then. 🙂 It was really nice to spend time with her, too.
I also when to Xmas at my Dad’s house on Sunday, which was also cool. I got a flannel shirt (!) a sweater, a home repair book, a perennials book (which is fantastic!) and some moola. And Spike got a present of some doggie treats from Bruiser, my Dad and stepmom’s dog.

Weekend Update 2001-11-11

I had a fantastic three-day weekend in which I accomplished a ton of stuff around the house and otherwise, complete with photos.

  • I raked all the leaves around my house, raked them off the roof, and cleaned out the gutters.
  • I finished the cellar door and opened up the blocked off back door, trashed all of the refuse wall board and particle board, and cleaned out the new little entryway in the back.
  • I put together a storage shelf for the bathroom.
  • I put together a floor lamp for the living room.
  • I had the new floorboards for the living room delivered.
  • I did all my laundry and got my hair cut.
  • I played with my doggie and took pictures of him.
  • I set up some additional security electronics for the house.
  • I bought wall sconces for the living room, a couple of cool lights to make a lamp from, and the remaining trim pieces I need to redo all the trim for the foyer.
  • I settled on a color scheme for the living room.
  • I bought sheer curtains that will go in the living room, and curtain rods for the foyer.
  • I stripped the tile around the fireplace in the living room.
  • I organized the storage room off the kitchen.
  • I e-mailed all sorts of people.
  • I read three magazines and a started reading a new book.

Photos of all this activity will come shortly.

(2014 update: I swear I was not on crack.)

Labor Day Weekend Update

I had a hugely productive labor day weekend. I constructed my floor-to-ceiling bookcases and unpacked and organized all my books, which has had a profound effect on my psyche. I can read again! I feel so less… constrained. I also feel really rich — I have so many good books I can read, and I don’t have to buy them, because I already own them.
I also finished stripping and sanding the window in my entry way, stained it, and put on the first coat of polyurethane. The second coat goes on tonight. I cleaned the entire downstairs and organized lots of stuff. I did a bit of paint stripping on one of my small bookcases that was painted green. I think I’ll put it away until I finish two other projects, though. Sanding the floor in the living room, and removing the extra water pipes in the kitchen.
Oh, yes, I also put up the section of picket fence in the front to close off the extra entry to my property. This is the entry/walkway that I never use but my neighbors do to cut across the corner of my property when walking between the houses. I think they were a bit pissed off about it, because I was outside and none of them said hi to me all weekend. 😛 That makes me so happy.

weekend update 2002-08-19

It wasn’t the best weekend I’ve ever had. My sister’s going back to England to live, and I had to say goodbye to her Saturday. I’m happy for her that’s she’s going back, because she really likes it there, but I’ll miss her. On Sunday, I went to Kokomo and Peru Indiana to photograph big things, which was cool, but on the way back, my brakes started grinding. So I had to take the car in and spend the afternoon getting new brakes put on, which really sucks, because I was just starting to really get ahead financially after buying the house. Very annoying. But at least I have new brakes. And photos of big things.

So, today is the first day of my new physical fitness program. So far so good.

We got our family photos done this weekend. Next weekend my sister is moving back to England.

The last Fever game of the regular season was last night, and we signed up to get season tickets for next years games. We’re also going to look into getting tickets for the Indiana Speed, our Professional Women’s Football team.

Weekend Update 2002-07-22

This weekend I finished painting the foyer and entryway, which now looks great. I also bought a round table for the foyer ($20) and a hat rack ($12) both of which I need to refinish. I got started on both yesterday afternoon. The table isn’t perfect, but it’s the right size. I’m thinking of painting a giant yin/yang symbol on top.

It is hot as hell here in Indiana. Thanks for the global warming, Bush. Wanker.

Here’s what I’ve been watching on TV:
Ground Force (BBC America)
Changing Rooms (BBC America)
Trading Spaces (TLC)
Big Brother 3 (CBS)

Oh, yeah, and the new season of Sex and the City. Of course, this might have something to do with the fact that there’s nothing on the freakin’ TV. Summer is boring, damn it. And no, don’t e-mail me and tell me to read a book. I already do plenty of that.

weekend update and fan fiction

So, this weekend, I saw Minority Report on Friday with Dan and Doug, then went to the Metro softball diamond to watch the Mutual Friends softball game and hang out with Michelle, Deb, Lisa & the team. Then I went to Dan and Dougs and fell asleep watching Atlantis (very boring Disney movie).
I went to my dads on Saturday, and hung out with my family, then dropped by Sunil’s party. Met Barry’s new friend Alice; she seems nice (Hi Barry!). Talked to Joel and his wife and Jen.
On Sunday, I laid around the house and watered the lawn and basically did nothing but read a book. Although today, the guys are coming to fix the gutters, so I guess that’s progress. I did get some more of the entry window woodwork stripped, too. I think the next big investment project is going to be installing the water hook-up for the washer and dryer. Then I’ll worry about the living room. Because going to the laundry mat sucks. I’m thinking that I might want to have them installed upstairs in the back bedroom. There’s already pipes running up there through the kitchen, so it might not be as hard. Plus, then I wouldn’t have the running up and down the stairs issue. The only problem is that it would take up a lot of room in the back bedroom. I’ll have to think about it more closely.
Now here are some fun online fiction links. I may have posted some of them before, but a couple are brand new.

Mostly, you just look through and see other fans websites; most of them have some fan fiction. I’m in there somewhere, although I haven’t written any Buffy fan fiction. Except in my head, of course.

weekend update 2002-06-18

Over the weekend, I painted the picket fence out in front of my house. I also finished painting first floor on the south side of the house and I put up a small wire garden fence and no parking signs in the backyard around the parking area, to prevent people from driving onto my lawn. I did that because I came home from Lowes Saturday morning and found an SUV parked on my lawn, and a moving truck on the parking area. Of course there was no where for me to park. The guy next door was moving out. Naturally, I flipped out, because, you know, that’s me. I flip out at stuff like that.
But anyway, I have to do some more replanting of grass (for the fourth time) to cover the spots where he drove on the lawn. Like I have time to do that with everything else I need to do. I’m just so tired of people not staying off my property. I don’t want to be a giant bitch, but what the hell else am I supposed to do? I can’t afford to put up a privacy fence yet. Should I just let people drive on my lawn, though? What’s the point of me planting grass if people are going to do this?

So, I should probably say something about Memorial Day weekend. I wouldn’t say it was the best weekend of my life. I did get to spend Saturday with my Mom and my niece Riley, which was very cool. We picked out a bunch of flowers for hanging pots and then put together the ones for mom’s house. I also bought a hummingbird feeder, and hostas and other groundcover plants for the flowerbeds around the trees in the backyard.

One of my neighbors is a pain in the ass, and the guy who owns the property next door is a giant asshole. But he’ll stick his own foot up his ass, eventually, so I don’t have to do it for him. But bad karma wishing on him. The girl who lives next door, Crystal, is cool, and so is Tonya, the chick who lives in the grey house two doors south.
