house loan approved

So my loan is approved. The inspection today was good, and unless something unexpected comes up, it looks like everything’s a go on the house. I just have to get the insurance set up, the sewer line fixed, and the appraisal done. If all goes well, I might get to close early. Very cool.

Sewer Lines and Inspections

We found a good quote on the sewer line, so that’s one hurdle out of the way, now I’m just waiting on the loan stuff. I’m going for a different kind of loan to make the house a bit easier to get, but the loan itself is tougher to qualify for than the other loan I was approved for. So I’ll know next week whether I’m approved or not. I have a good feeling about it. I feel like it might actually work this time.
Also, I set up an inspection on Tuesday morning, so I’ll have a complete idea of what needs to be fixed in the house, too, and I’ll be able to take photos while I’m there with the inspector. The owner also replaced the window that was out, so the house is getting more complete. Cool.
This doesn’t stop me from driving by at every opportunity, though. 🙂 Good thing the house can’t call and report me for stalking. Don’t worry; I’m not trespassing on the property, just parking in the street out front. Don’t want to get in that much trouble.
Other people buy houses and don’t make this much fuss over it, don’t they? But I can’t help it; I’m obsessed.
It’s going to be tricky, if everything works out. I’ll have less than a month to move, and I’m hoping to have all the fugly carpet and vinyl floor coverings ripped out and the floors sanded before I move in. I may not have time to get then refinished, and scramble to move at the same time, and get the current residence cleaned and fixed up.

Accepted Offer

Okay, so I have an accepted offer. 🙂
Unfortunately, we’re not out of the woods yet. I have to find someone to fix a cracked sewer line for less than $2,500, and I have to hope to god my loan stuff goes through. Otherwise, I’m screwed again. I just wish I were having fun getting screwed.
But, hey, I’m closer to getting a house than I have been before…. we’ll see.

house buying woes

So… once again I’m at that crucial point where I have an offer on the table and things aren’t going well. In this case, the seller isn’t willing to give anything in the negotiations at all, and I’m basically walking in screwed from the start. Looks like I’m going to lose another one, which will be the fifth offer that falls through, and the eighth house I’ve tried for and gotten screwed on (three that people paid cash before I even had the ability to make an offer).
So… I’ll probably end up building, and again paying way more than I should have to for much less house than I need to get. And who knows what I’ll end up paying in rent while I’m trying to get the house built.

My Hobbit Name: Peony Smallburrows of Sandydowns

Okay, so my Hobbit name is: Peony Smallburrows of Sandydowns. Cool.

I didn’t get the house, so I guess I’m going to build after all. Should be fun. (2014 update: I didn’t build. Spoilers)

Also, here is the comedy website/magazine that hosts my favorite movie reviewer ever, The Self-Made Critic: The Brunching Shuttlecocks. They have a great review of Vanilla Sky.Plus they have a bunch of other good comedy as well. You should check it out. And go through the archives and read all the movie reviews by The Self-Made Critic, especially the one for Josie and the Pussycats. It sounds like something I would have written.

Otto’s Lighthouse

I visited the Pilsum Lighthouse (AKA Otto’s Lighthouse in 1997 when I visited my friend Cate. According to Wikipedia:

The Pilsum Lighthouse (German: Pilsumer Leuchtturm) was built in 1891 in order to provide a beacon for the Emshörn channel on Germany’s North Sea coast. It is located on a dyke near the village of Pilsum in the municipality of Krummhörn. It has guided ships through the narrow channel since 1915.
The tower grew in popularity as a result of the film Otto – Der AuĂźerfriesische (“Otto – the Outer Frisian”) by comedian, Otto Waalkes. In the film Otto lives in the lighthouse.

White Elephant Gift Exchange at Buca Di Beppo’s

Dinner at Buca’s wasn’t the raucous blow-out that it was in years past, but it was still great fun. I got a t-shirt with Geupel’s picture on it. Maybe I can use it to pick up chicks with Westies, like in the commercial. 🙂 Now if I can just get a house, I’ll have the shirt and the house to entice women with.

In other news, I got cable modem, and it ROCKS! It ROCKS HARD! You could call me up right now, as we speak, and we could talk on the phone, while I write in my journal. I’m buying an answering machine and cancelling my voice mail later, as well as telling the friggin’ people at iquest to shove the poorly-serviced account I had for so many years. So if you still e-mail me at the old address (batgirl) it’s going to be gone, baby! Plus I now have a super-secret e-mail account that I’m not giving to anyone. No sir.

house hunting

So, I saw the house and took photos and made an offer on it. I’m not going to put any of the photos on the site yet, because every time I do that, I find out I’m not getting the house. This time I’m waiting until I know more, which may be awhile. In the meantime, I’m going to enjoy the holidays. The annual dinner/white elephant gift exchange at Buca Di Beppo’s is tonight. I’ve got a great thing to give away, (no hints until it’s over) so it should be fun.

This was the house. I did not get it. It sold to some investors for $40,000 and the flipped it for $250,000. Then the new owners got into trouble and it sat empty for a long time. I believe it may be a rental.

house update, and Sims

Well, that house didn’t work out. I have one more possibility, and then if it doesn’t work, I’m going to just give up and try to build a house in Fall Creek Place instead. I’m going to do an official tour of those tomorrow.
I installed the “livin’ large” expansion for the Sims; more addiction, more fun. I really should try to do some socializing with others, though.

UPDATE: Fall Creek Homes I looked at.
