New York Times — clueless

The New York Times headline actually reads — I’M NOT KIDDING — “A Modest Victory for Bush, but Challenging Tests Lie Ahead.”
Apparently that’s the headline from Bizarro World, because, um, that filibuster compromise wasn’t a victory for Bush, y’all. Unless you count Bush getting his ass kicked as a “victory.” Which wouldn’t surprise me in a world where Republicans keep telling us that the sky is green and gravity makes stuff float upward, and people believe it.

Possibly because he’s a dumb jerkface?

According to USA Today, Bush’s ratings have dropped to an all-time low:

President Bush’s approval ratings for handling the economy, Iraq and Social Security have fallen to the lowest levels of his White House tenure, according to a USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll taken Friday through Sunday.
Satisfaction with congressional Republicans also has sagged. By 47%-36%, those polled say the country would be better off if Democrats controlled Congress. That’s the best showing for Democrats since the GOP won control of both houses of Congress in 1994.

Americans express more concern about the price of gas than they do about the high-profile dispute over Democrats’ filibuster of Bush’s judicial nominations, the survey shows. And they are holding Republicans, who control the White House and Congress, responsible for their unease about the economy and Iraq.

About friggin’ time people realized it’s BUSH screwing up the economy, not Clinton.

Sure, there’s no racism anymore

A North Texas school district is having four pages of its high school yearbook reprinted to correct a photo caption that identified a student as “Black Girl.”
All white students are identified by name in the photograph of Waxahachie High School’s chapter of the National Honor Society. The teen identified as “Black Girl” is the only black student in the photo.
The district apologized for the mistake after the yearbooks were distributed. The label apparently was meant to be a placeholder until the yearbook staff could track down the student’s name, district spokeswoman Candace Ahlfinger said.

Rush Limbaugh is a crack whore

I’m sorry, but I’m sick of people defending Rush Limbaugh’s drug addiction and giving Howard Dean a hard time for bashing Rush’s hypocrisy because he attacked others for drug use while he was higher than a kite. Drug addiction is a serious issue hence it is important to know about factors that leads to drug addiction. You can also click to read more about drug addiction.
I’ve been prescribed OxyContin (which is basically Vicodin) and Darvocet for my open heart surgery, which is far more painful than the “chronic back pain” that Limbaugh claims to have suffered from. So I know a bit about painkillers and what’s necessary to take when your in constant pain. And if you take a good look at the AMOUNT of drugs he was taking — holy shit. He had to have been higher that a crack whore, and there’s no way that amount of drugs was necessary for the “pain” he was undergoing. I’m taking far less drugs than that, and I’m not allowed to drive. He was not only driving while under heavy influence (scary!!!), he was hosting a radio show where he talked shit about people taking drugs and suggested that they should be locked up, while he was higher than any of the people he was criticising.
And I’m sorry, but becoming “addicted” to these drugs isn’t that easy, it’s really not. That’s not a situation where it’s understandable that he might become addicted. No way. He was a fucking drug addict, and he has no business talking moral values at all.

Isn’t that precious?

Apparently some fine folks in Arizona are traveling around the state in a nice “Please Hate Homos” semi-trailer truck called the “Marriage Mobile.” Beautiful. Why not just stick a nice burning cross on the top of that thing, and make it complete?
If you take a good look at the statistics about gay marriage in Massachusetts, where it has been legal for over a year now, we don’t seem to be contributing to the hetero divorce rate in that state, so I think the argument that we’re threatening marriage has been thoroughly debunked.

George Bush = Evil Empire

Tom Tomorrow has an interesting discussion on the politics of the new Star Wars movie, and how George Lucas himself says that he intends the movies to be commentary on how the Republicans are destroying democracy and the American people.

So where does Lucas stand in this political polemic? “I’m more on the liberal side of things,” he says. “I grew up in San Francisco in the ’60s, and my positions are sort of shaped by that … If you look back 30 years ago, there were certain issues with the Kennedys, with Richard Nixon, that focused my interest.” Lucas’ own geopolitics can sound pretty bleak: “All democracies turn into dictatorships—but not by coup. The people give their democracy to a dictator, whether it’s Julius Caesar or Napoleon or Adolf Hitler. Ultimately, the general population goes along with the idea … What kinds of things push people and institutions into this direction?”

Ahead of his time

A true quote, according to Snopes.com:

“Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes that you can do these things. Among them are a few Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or businessman from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid.”

President Dwight Eisenhower, Republican, on November 8, 1954.

$2 Bills Rock Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS — Rock Indiana Campaign for Equality announced today their statewide $2 bill campaign. The campaign, which began two weeks ago with a saturation period, will last through the summer.
“Because of the vast discrimination that is being wielded against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Hoosiers, we feel it is important to send a message to businesses that GLBT citizens are not only consumers, but tax paying consumers at that and we contribute to Indiana’s economy,” said Pepper Partin, a Rock Indiana organizer. “We can easily take these powerful dollars to another state where special interest groups such as Eric Miller’s Advance America do not have a stronghold on the state, city and county governments.”
Every Hoosier who believes in equal rights for all is encouraged to participate. The bills should be obtained from banks and/or credit unions and should be spent wherever citizens spend their common denomination currency. Real ID Act

I keep saying it’s getting worse, and then it gets even more worse. I keep thinking, “surely, cooler heads will prevail, here, and this will get scotched, right?” but then stuff like the Real ID Act gets passed, and I’m dumbfounded.
Wil Wheaton’s got a good explanation of what’s going on here. Basically, the government inserted a provision into a completely unrelated bill that will create a National ID card, wherein we will all be registered with the government, and they will be able to track us. And buried in the obscure language of the bill is a provision that says that this bill is not subject to judicial review — meaning that individuals have no recourse if the bill gets abused, as it absolutely will because we have an evil and corrupt president.
I’m back to the question of when did the first Jews leave Germany, and how did they know it was the right time?
