Hey, look, it’s my girlfriend leaving Nashville in her Beetle!
Lisa and Spacepod are driving behind Stephanie, who’s driving Phoebe. You can also see all the cars on the caravan on the graph at the bottom of the main page.
Hmmm. This is pretty cool; I can keep tabs on my girlfriend even when she’s hundreds of miles away. 🙂
You can also see still photos they put online; Stephanie and Phoebe are in them, too. 🙂
UPDATE: More pictures of my girl on the webcam, here’s one, and here’s another.
And here’s a great shot of Phoebe… you can see her retro wheels. She’s so cute.

All Pods Go to Roswell
All Pods Go to Roswell
Every year in June, the town of Roswell, New Mexico plays host to the largest New Beetle Car Show in the world. Hundreds of New Beetle owners make their way to the famed UFO desert town in organized caravans for the 3 day event that includes a car show, parade, parties, rallies and a skywatch party where the explorers watch for the mothership to take all the pods back to the home planet.

Today, on the first day of my spring vacation, I took my little dog and went on a road trip, where we snapped photos of a giant pink elephant, two giant shoes, and a Huge guy. Spike doesn’t care for road trips. He was doggone bored. Poor puppy. Tomorrow, we’re reading about CSS all day long. Woo hoo!

Spring Shopping

La la la… I love shopping. Well, when I can buy stuff, that is. Not when I can only look and not buy., as was the case for the past year or so. I bought several pairs of cargo shorts from OldNavy.com and two pairs from gap.com. It’s easier to buy pants online because they always have my size. I’ve been shopping at lunch twice this week, and this weekend I’m going shopping with Dan and Doug and Melissa. Woo hoo. I think I might also invest in a new digital camera, before I go on my late April road trip.

Wil Wheaton and I have some of the same photos…

Wil took an eastbound trip from California to Vegas along old Route 66, and during the trip he overlapped with some of the route of my 1998 road trip with Laurie and Twyla to help them move out to Arizona. He has several photos that are the same as mine… the largest cross in the western hemisphere, the leaning water tower, the giant cowboy, and several photos in Shamrock, Texas, including one of a beautiful 50’s cafe. This is his photo, and here’s mine:

UPDATE: In the summer of 2007, I took a long roadtrip on Route 66.

I have a new truck

A shiny red Ford Ranger that I bought on Saturday. I love it. I got a very good deal on it from Paul Harvey Ford, especially since my younger brother Todd bought one from there Saturday, too. I was originally just looking, but they had what I wanted, and I needed to trade in my Geo Metro before winter anyway, because it wasn’t reliable enough to get through the season. So I can drive to my grandma’s for Thanksgiving, and take some Big Things road trips, too. You can also look into the website of Affordable heavy truck parts if you are looking for parts for your heavy vehicle. Along, with the heavy vehicle parts, excellent exhaust and intake systems available here as well. In case you get involved in a raid accident while driving your truck, be sure to protect your rights by hiring a Riverside truck accident lawyer. An Injury attorney will help those who were injured in an accident caused by a negligent driver.

The other thing I bought over the weekend was a new cell phone. My old one was dying and getting the batteries replaced would have cost almost as much as just buying a new phone. So I sprung for it. It has a lot more programming to learn than the truck, actually.

Viva Las Vegas!

Wow. So that was Las Vegas. Wow. And I didn’t lose much money. Cool. This was a great trip! I didn’t think I’d care for Vegas because it’s so artificial, but I LOVED it.

Mandalay Bay

Otto’s Lighthouse

I visited the Pilsum Lighthouse (AKA Otto’s Lighthouse in 1997 when I visited my friend Cate. According to Wikipedia:

The Pilsum Lighthouse (German: Pilsumer Leuchtturm) was built in 1891 in order to provide a beacon for the Emshörn channel on Germany’s North Sea coast. It is located on a dyke near the village of Pilsum in the municipality of Krummhörn. It has guided ships through the narrow channel since 1915.
The tower grew in popularity as a result of the film Otto – Der AuĂźerfriesische (“Otto – the Outer Frisian”) by comedian, Otto Waalkes. In the film Otto lives in the lighthouse.

Visited with Cate

I made an offer on the house… it’s pretty cool but needs a lot more work than I had expected. So now we wait. Again.
Seeing Cate was great- we went to P.F. Changs and ate and plotted my next visit to Europe, which I hope will be in the fall of next year, and will cover London, Paris and MĂĽnster. Cool. Somehow I think “big things” will be few and far between in Europe, but I’ll have to scout out, just in case.
