In 1990, then Republican House Whip Newt Gingrich (later Speaker of the House) hired a pollster to devise a lexicon of demonization. In a memo that Gingrich circulated, “Language: A Key Mechanism of Control,” Republicans were instructed that “words and phrases are powerful” and that the list that had been test-marketed should be “memorized.” They were urged to apply these to the opponent, their record, proposals and their party:

Faux News is suing Al Franken because he titled his book, Lies, and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right using the words “fair and balanced” which Faux News holds a copyright on. The issue is ridiculous. I really need to wear my new “Faux News” shirt more often… it has the phrase “fair and balanced” on it as well.

According to the New York Times: A federal judge in Manhattan criticized police officials yesterday for the way demonstrators against the war in Iraq were interrogated earlier this year, and he made clear that civil liberties lawyers could seek to hold the city in contempt of court in the future if the police violate people’s rights.

Last week, little Georgie held his very own press conference with out any extra help from the grownups. They don’t let him do that very often (only 9 times so far, compared to Clinton’s 22 at this stage, and Bush senior’s 80+) because he tends to say really stupid shit when he’s not reading from a script that someone else wrote. And true to form, he did so at this press conference, too, blaming the crummy economy on the media for putting “The March to War” on their graphics back in the spring. Of course it has nothing to do with his dumbass tax cuts or the 70 billion+ that we’re spending on a unnecessary and illegal war.

I’ve said much worse about him than just that he “has chicken legs.” I think he’s a moron and he’s trashing our country. Will I be banned from your stores? Is this an official policy? Is the manager of the Fredericksburg store going to be directed to apologize to Julia Rose for violating her right to free speech? I won’t be spending another cent of my money in any of your stores until I hear from you regarding this matter….”

Highlights this week: relatives of 9-11 casualties are upset by the report on 9-11 failures; specifically on what was left out to cover the ass of the Bush Administration. Also Condoleeza Rice keeps contradicting herself, and Bush descrates the American Flag. And a woman who said she didn’t like Bush’s “chicken legs” got banned from Borders Bookstore. Interesting. Since I spent over $1,000 at Borders last year, and I’ve called Bush every name there is. I think I’ll be writing to tell them that.
