Sure, there’s no racism anymore

A North Texas school district is having four pages of its high school yearbook reprinted to correct a photo caption that identified a student as “Black Girl.”
All white students are identified by name in the photograph of Waxahachie High School’s chapter of the National Honor Society. The teen identified as “Black Girl” is the only black student in the photo.
The district apologized for the mistake after the yearbooks were distributed. The label apparently was meant to be a placeholder until the yearbook staff could track down the student’s name, district spokeswoman Candace Ahlfinger said.

Rush Limbaugh is a crack whore

I’m sorry, but I’m sick of people defending Rush Limbaugh’s drug addiction and giving Howard Dean a hard time for bashing Rush’s hypocrisy because he attacked others for drug use while he was higher than a kite. Drug addiction is a serious issue hence it is important to know about factors that leads to drug addiction. You can also click to read more about drug addiction.
I’ve been prescribed OxyContin (which is basically Vicodin) and Darvocet for my open heart surgery, which is far more painful than the “chronic back pain” that Limbaugh claims to have suffered from. So I know a bit about painkillers and what’s necessary to take when your in constant pain. And if you take a good look at the AMOUNT of drugs he was taking — holy shit. He had to have been higher that a crack whore, and there’s no way that amount of drugs was necessary for the “pain” he was undergoing. I’m taking far less drugs than that, and I’m not allowed to drive. He was not only driving while under heavy influence (scary!!!), he was hosting a radio show where he talked shit about people taking drugs and suggested that they should be locked up, while he was higher than any of the people he was criticising.
And I’m sorry, but becoming “addicted” to these drugs isn’t that easy, it’s really not. That’s not a situation where it’s understandable that he might become addicted. No way. He was a fucking drug addict, and he has no business talking moral values at all.

Isn’t that precious?

Apparently some fine folks in Arizona are traveling around the state in a nice “Please Hate Homos” semi-trailer truck called the “Marriage Mobile.” Beautiful. Why not just stick a nice burning cross on the top of that thing, and make it complete?
If you take a good look at the statistics about gay marriage in Massachusetts, where it has been legal for over a year now, we don’t seem to be contributing to the hetero divorce rate in that state, so I think the argument that we’re threatening marriage has been thoroughly debunked.

Q1: How do you feel about television, newspaper, magazine, or web site news reports that rely wholly or in part on ‘unnamed’ sources?

It’s acceptable in many cases, if there is follow-up reporting that supports the information from the source. The exception would be where the unnamed source does something illegal, like exposing Valerie Plame as a CIA operative, which compromised her ability to do her job and placed dozens of other CIA operatives in danger. In that case, the source should have been revealed and prosecuted, along with the reporter who helped commit the crime.

Q2: Do you think there should be government-mandated drug-testing for anyone who plays sports professionally?

Not at all. If the people who own and run the sports teams want to test their players, it should be up to them to do so. There’s no reason whatsoever that the government should have anything to do with it. Why on earth should the government care about testing sports figures, any more than they should care about testing me for drug use? Really, who gives a crap if some baseball player’s on steroids? It’s not as though the fate of the free world rests on whether Jose Conseco hit a homer or not. (He is a baseball player, right?)

Q3: When you prepare to eat a hamburger or a sandwich, do you prefer to cut the burger or sandwich in half before eating it, or are you okay eating it whole?

I eat them whole, unless I feel like they’re too big and are going to fall apart in my hands.

Q4: Restaurants are notorious for charging a 15-18% gratuity on groups of eight or more. Are you in favor of this practice or would you prefer to tip the wait staff yourself based on how you feel they handled your table/group?

It’s okay by me; I can understand why they do it… I used to be roommates with a waiter, so I know how hard they work and how easily they get screwed over by assholes who don’t bother to leave tips. Large parties make it very easy for jerks to get away with that sort of thing. You would not believe some of the tipping horror stories my roommate suffered through. The best were the ones on Sundays: no one ever wanted to work on Sunday lunches, because the Christians were terrible tippers. They’d come in after church with their strollers and children in tow, create mess, noise, havoc and broken dishes wherever they went, and then leave a religious pamphlet on the table as a “tip” instead of money. What would Jesus do, indeed. He wouldn’t do that.

Yeah! Scientists discover a new species of monkey in Africa. The BBC story includes a picture of the new guy, called the Highland Mangabey.

“This exciting discovery demonstrates once again how little we know about our closest living relatives, the nonhuman primates,” said Russell Mittermeier, chairman of the Primate Specialist Group of IUCN-The World Conservation Union’s Species Survival Commission.

“A large, striking monkey in a country of considerable wildlife research over the last century has been hidden right under our noses.”

In other monkey news, Tokyo, Japan is pursuing a renegade monkey on the loose in the streets of the city.

George Bush = Evil Empire

Tom Tomorrow has an interesting discussion on the politics of the new Star Wars movie, and how George Lucas himself says that he intends the movies to be commentary on how the Republicans are destroying democracy and the American people.

So where does Lucas stand in this political polemic? “I’m more on the liberal side of things,” he says. “I grew up in San Francisco in the ’60s, and my positions are sort of shaped by that … If you look back 30 years ago, there were certain issues with the Kennedys, with Richard Nixon, that focused my interest.” Lucas’ own geopolitics can sound pretty bleak: “All democracies turn into dictatorships—but not by coup. The people give their democracy to a dictator, whether it’s Julius Caesar or Napoleon or Adolf Hitler. Ultimately, the general population goes along with the idea … What kinds of things push people and institutions into this direction?”

Ahead of his time

A true quote, according to Snopes.com:

“Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes that you can do these things. Among them are a few Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or businessman from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid.”

President Dwight Eisenhower, Republican, on November 8, 1954.

$2 Bills Rock Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS — Rock Indiana Campaign for Equality announced today their statewide $2 bill campaign. The campaign, which began two weeks ago with a saturation period, will last through the summer.
“Because of the vast discrimination that is being wielded against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Hoosiers, we feel it is important to send a message to businesses that GLBT citizens are not only consumers, but tax paying consumers at that and we contribute to Indiana’s economy,” said Pepper Partin, a Rock Indiana organizer. “We can easily take these powerful dollars to another state where special interest groups such as Eric Miller’s Advance America do not have a stronghold on the state, city and county governments.”
Every Hoosier who believes in equal rights for all is encouraged to participate. The bills should be obtained from banks and/or credit unions and should be spent wherever citizens spend their common denomination currency. For more information on the campaign and to download a flyer visit 2 Dollar Bill Campaign Web site

Catholics refuse communion to people who support gays

According to an AP story, A priest in St. Paul, Minnesota denied communion to more than 100 parisioners on Sunday because they wore rainbow color sashes in support of gay and lesbian Catholics.

A Roman Catholic priest denied communion to more than 100 people Sunday, saying they could not receive the sacrament because they wore rainbow-colored sashes to church to show support for gay Catholics.

Before offering communion, the Rev. Michael Sklucazek told the congregation at the Cathedral of St. Paul (search) that anyone wearing a sash could come forward for a blessing but would not receive wine and bread.

A group called the Rainbow Sash Alliance has encouraged supporters to wear the multicolored fabric bands since 2001 on each Pentecost Sunday, the day Catholics believe the Holy Spirit came to give power to Christians soon after Jesus ascended to heaven. But Sunday’s service was the first time they had been denied communion at the altar.

Archbishop Harry Flynn told the group earlier this month that they would not receive communion because the sashes had become a protest against church teaching.
