Regarding SJR-7

I just wanted to say that there are a lot of hard working people who were tireless in getting SJR-7 stopped in its tracks. I’m afraid to start naming them, because I’ll manage to leave someone out – but every single person who was involved in the grassroots effort worked hard – much harder than I did – and I want them all to know that I appreciated everything they did. The people who got Cummins, Wellpoint, Lilly, DowAgro and other big companies to the table – you guys rock.
Of course, the amendment could still be introduced back into the legislature in 2008. But stopping it here was a major blow, and one worth celebrating. There’s no limit to the power of people working together…

I feel like shit

In the myriad of doctors appointments I have, I managed to forget the most important one – my Monday appointment with my new primary care physician. It was scheduled so far from when I actually made the appointment that I completely lost track of it- I thought it was on April 28th, which it turns out is actually supposed to be my pulmonologist’s appointment. And I see my cardiologist on April 12th at 1 p.m. And I’m completely pissed off at google calendar – I had it set to remind me two days before the appointment, and I didn’t get a reminder.
So I had to reschedule for my regular doctor, and the woman in the office was completely bitchy. I asked why they didn’t call to remind me of the appointment, and she said they have more important things to do, and that I need to learn to manage my time. Thanks. If you made appointments closer to the time that people ask for them, they might fucking remember them, thank you.
I couldn’t get an appointment before the April 16th, which means I’m seeing the cardiologist before my regular doctor, which is bound to be a complete and utter clusterfuck.
I really need one of these damn doctors to round up the others, put their heads together, and figure out what the fucking problem is, because at this point, my diagnoses are more accurate than any of theirs. I’m so fucking sick of being sick.

SJR-7 Died in Committee

From numerous sources, but quoting from the Indiana Equality email:

Marriage Discrimination Amendment dies in committee
Indianapolis – Indiana Equality announced today that the Indiana House of Representative’s Rules and Legislative Procedures Committee voted five to five on Senate Joint Resolution 7 (SJR-7). As a result, the amendment will not be brought for a vote by the full House of Representatives and will not be voted upon by the Indiana General Assembly.

The Indy Star has an article on it.

Advance Indiana breaks down the vote:

Rep. Terri Austin (D)-No
Rep. Scott Pelath (D)-No
Rep. Russ Stilwell (D)-No
Rep. Earl Harris (D)-No
Rep. Bob Kuzman (D)-No
Rep. Randy Borror (R)-Yes
Rep. Ralph Foley (R)-Yes
Rep. Eric Turner (R)-Yes
Rep. Matt Whetstone (R)-Yes
Rep. Dennis Oxley (D)-Yes

Wow, that was brave of the democrats to stand against this – we can’t forget them. I’ll be sending them some flowers, without a doubt.
I’m so happy I could cry.

Old Northside Neighborhood Photos

Ovid Butler House
Flickr Photoset of Old Northside Neighborhood
Stephanie and I took the dog for a long walk around our gorgeous neighborhood this weekend, and I snapped a bunch for photos (148, to be exact) for my growing collection of pictures of our neighborhood.
We are very lucky to live in one of the most scenic neighborhoods in the city, in a modest house in the middle of some very grand mansions. I’ve been snapping pictures of the neighborhood since we moved in last year; the historic victorian architecture is amazing. Old Northside was one of the prominent neighborhoods in the late 1800s – the state’s prominent businessmen and politicians lived here. It was also the original home of Butler University, and the house in the photo above is the home of Ovid Butler, the founder of the university.

2007 Spring Flowers

Hyacinths

April 2007 flowers

The 200 bulbs we planted last fall are coming up nicely in front of our house, and last night I planted 2 daisy plants and a lavender plant in the front. I also bought seeds for Columbines, Butterfly plants, and Delphiniums, and the other day Stephanie and I planted seeds in a starter kit for Texas Blue Bonnets and Aster.

I need to get some topsoil to prepare beds for our vegetables; we’re planting lettuce, cucumbers, sugar snap peas, green onions, rhubarb, radishes, oregano, parsley and basil. I hope. We need to get started soon. This is the first year I’ve planted vegetables, so I’m not entirely sure what I’m doing.

Bedroom Painting Complete

Huckleberry on the Bed, Lucy on the Trunk
Finished Paint Job

We finished up the bedroom this weekend, which was quite a chore. The part where we had to clean up the latex paint the contractors spilled on the hardwood floors was a highlight. Fortunately, Murphy’s Oil Soap and a lot of elbow grease got it all up without damaging the wood. The room does look great. And it’s nice not to be sleeping in the hall.

For those looking to enhance both comfort and functionality, you can explore storage beds with TV, which combine relaxation and extra space for a sleek and organized bedroom setup. These beds are perfect for maximizing limited space while also offering a luxurious experience with built-in entertainment features.
