Top Ten Conservative Idiots (#154)

I’ve been on vacation for a week and not blogging about anything political, but this week’s list from Democratic Underground covers all the really big stories, including how a major media outlet refused to honor the war dead for political reasons, and how Iraqi prisoners are being tortured and raped by American soldiers in prison, which is really no better than what we accused Saddam Hussein of doing. And interestingly enough, what the GOP is lambasting Kerry for speaking out about during the Vietnam war.
The thing I wanted to point out, that no one seems to be covering much, is how homophobic the behavior of the American soldiers doing the torturing is… they’re forcing male prisoners to simulate sexual poses with each other as a form of humiliation, and taking photos of it to entertain their friends.

U.S. eyes proposal to draft women, raise cut off age to 34

WASHINGTON – The chief of the U.S. Selective Service System has proposed registering women for the military draft and requiring that young Americans regularly inform the government about whether they have training in niche specialties needed in the armed services.

The proposal, which the agency’s acting director Lewis Brodsky presented to senior Pentagon officials just before the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, also seeks to extend the age of draft registration to 34, up from 25.

Please note that this would not only keep my younger brother Gary eligible for the draft, but make my sister Stacy and my brother Scott eligible as well. Let’s all keep this in mind when voting tomorrow.

Geek Bling

So I was watching Ellen, and she had a rapper on and they were talking about bling, and how he had to remember to put on all his bling before he left the house, and I realized that I have to do the same thing… only my bling isn’t jewelry; it’s my iPod, digital camera, cell phone, car stereo face, laptop, watch, pedometer, burglar alarm remote control, and sunglasses.

And I say to myself, it’s wonderful, wonderful…

Yesterday I went with Stephanie K. (I’m putting her last initial lest someone become confused and think I’m writing about myself) to the Indiana State Museum. Cool place. The pendulum from the old state museum is there, but it doesn’t have the same presence that it did in the old building, where it was in the main lobby. But it’s still cool. I was snapping pictures of it, and I’m wishing now I had taken a picture of Stephanie while she was standing next to it. But I was so distracted by her all day that I forgot about taking a picture. After the museum we came back and spent time together at my house. It’s funny, we both made CDs for each other. I like hers better; it’s songs that we heard on our first date.

Vacation update

Tuesday night I went out with Stephanie K. to see “13 Going on 30.” That was a fun little movie.
Wednesday, I did some gardening. Thursday morning, I hung around the house because the phone guy was coming to add phone jacks to the house. He told me I needed to have the Alarm guy come and redo the alarm wiring in the telephone box, because it was done badly. So I called the alarm company, and spend Thursday afternoon waiting for the alarm guy. He reworked the wiring for the phone and reset the delay on the back door, so my alarm works correctly. He also asked me out on a date. I told him I was seeing someone. Turns out, I am, so I wasn’t lying. I went out to Iaria’s Italian Restaurant with Stephanie K. for dinner. Eventually we got around to telling each other that we liked each other.
