Sorry, Glee. We are never, ever ever getting back together

Don’t worry; I have no illusions that anyone from Glee would actually see this. I just couldn’t resist the post title.

It seems perhaps the good folks from Glee have become alarmed (amused?) by the loss of lesbian viewers of their show due to their outright derision towards the “Lesbian Blogger Community“, and vowed that they would get them back. Because in season 4, episode 13, they make a full on play towards bringing the gay girls back into the fold by name-checking the afterellen blog, and using Naya Rivera as bait (by actually bringing her back to the show and giving her some lines and stuff).

Supposedly, this is all a set up for the upcoming Valentine’s Day episode in which Naya Rivera’s Santana Lopez makes out with Dianna Agron’s Quinn Fabray which is, I guess supposed to seal the deal on the “really we don’t hate lesbians, and no this isn’t a sweeps week lesbian kiss stunt like all those other shows, really” pass that Glee is making toward the homo girl community.

From what I’ve read, the Season 4 episode 13 show that just aired has a huge trans-phobic transgression in it and a “bad touch” sexual assault, but never mind those; the Afterellen blog is fully on board with the lesbian redemption of Glee, after being publicly acknowledged on the show.

Fortunately, the Autostraddle blog is like Afterellen’s saner older cousin ready step in and shut that down because she’s been around this particular block with you and others like you, Chris Brown.

As for me, my Glee hate-watching enjoyment these days has developed to the point of letting episodes pile up on the DVR and reading Riese Bernard’s scathing recaps on Autostraddle each week, which you should be doing too, regardless of whether you’re gay or not, because that is some funny shit.

Only on afterellen.com would lesbian stalkers be a feel good story

Only on that site would no one question a story like this:

The 8 Craziest Pop Culture Lesbian Stalkers

When you hear the term “lesbian stalker,” it’s usually referencing someone you or your friend broke up with that you just can’t get away from. Well I’m sorry to say but lesbian communities are oh-so-small, my friends, and we’re all someone’s crazy ex. But sometimes there are legitimate stalkers who send Ellen Page creepy letters or sit outside Kerry Katona’s house. I’d like to think these people aren’t truly lesbian but just women who are weirdly obsessed with celebrities. But that doesn’t mean true lesbian stalkers don’t exist in the wonderful world of film and TV tropes! In fact, the obsessive gay woman that is willing to go to any length to have what she wants is quite popular. And because it’s that time of year when you like to cuddle up with your closest ladyfriend and watch a scary story, how about one of these true nuts?

Given that the “Predatory Lesbian” trope is even called out as a massive anti-gay stereotype on TV Tropes.com, which actually takes the time to note that much of the time, heterosexual people wrote these stories to scare women back into the closet and to justify homophobic behavior towards lesbians, one would think that a list like this from After Ellen would, I dunno… maybe include why this trope is problematic in it’s portrayal of lesbian characters?

But of course After Ellen would never ever question whether pop-culture’s portrayals of gay women are problematic, because they’re owned and managed by a pop-culture producer themselves, and giving actual critique of a semi-political nature wouldn’t be good for their bottom-line.

Sigh. I don’t know why I read this site anymore, really.

It’s like we’re not even watching the same show

“Glee” Recap (4.01): Marley & Me | AfterEllen.com.

I can’t read this recap of Glee. You read it for me. I couldn’t get through the first paragraph, because it’s like the writer and I aren’t even watching the same show. Or sitting on the same planet, even. The crazy; it burns.

Kitty sez nope.

I thought her recaps of the last few episodes of Pretty Little Liars were bizarre and off-kilter, but this is nuts. She’s not recapping; that would be narrating the plot of the show for people who missed it. She’s outright rewriting the show with her own interpretation of events and interpretation of character motives, and it’s completely oddball.

Speechless.
