“Is this your liberation?” one frustrated shopkeeper screamed at the crew of a U.S. tank as a gang of youths helped themselves to everything in his small hardware store and carted booty off in the wheelbarrows that had also been on sale.
Hell, it ain’t my job to stop them,” drawled one young marine, lighting a cigarette as he looked on. “Goddamn Iraqis will steal anything if you let them. Look at them.”

Start looking for this letter to the editor in your local papers, witten by the Republicans and distributed to their troops for seeding in the local press:
“Dear XXX,
Yesterday, John Kerry shocked many Americans when he called for “regime change” right here in the U.S. By comparing our commander-in-chief to Saddam Hussein’s brutal regime at a time of war, Kerry showed just what he is willing to say to appeal to liberal Democrat primary voters.
RNC, Chairman Marc Racicot quickly responded saying, ‘Senator Kerry crossed a grave line when he dared to suggest the replacement of America’s commander-in- chief at a time when America is at war. Critical analysis offered in the best interests of the country is part of a healthy democracy. But this use of self- serving rhetoric designed to further Senator Kerry’s political ambitions at a time when the lives of America’s sons and daughters are at stake reflects a complete lack of judgment.’ ”
In a couple of days, Google on the bold phrase and you see how this letter spread. It will appear signed by different people in different papers.
But let me point out the substance of the letter… um, is this a suggestion that we suspend elections until after the war is over? Because that’s certainly what it sounds like. If so, let me be be pre-emptive in my response: IMPEACH BUSH!

The White House Spins Around

First the president said the war was about “ridding Iraq of weapons of mass destruction”. But they haven’t located any significant weapons of mass destruction. If and when we do, there won’t be very many, they’ll be degraded and not deliverable to the U.S., meaning they were never a threat to anyone. Then Bush decided that the war was about creating “regime change”. Now suddenly, we’re talking about Iraq as a platform of spreading democracy through the Middle East. If our goals keep changing, how do we know we’re successful? Oh, right, we’re not supposed to notice that.

On December 12, 2002, Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife Lynn sent a DCMA notice to the White House parody site, where the site hosted a fake biography of Lynn Cheney. Partial bio:

Mrs. Dick Cheney was born Lynne Ann Vincent on August 14, 1941 in Casper, Wyoming. The daughter of a ruggedly masculine sheriff and her demurely erudite husband, Lynne took an early and girlishly appropriate interest in those aspects of American art and culture which are so comfortably reminiscent of 18th century thought and tradition. A voracious reader of books, the young future Mrs. Dick Cheney took a special liking to the tragically romantic works of the Frenchman Victor Hugo, most notably his seminal novel “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” from whose dog-eared pages she would later would take her inspiration when selecting a mate.

Text of the DCMA notice:

“This is to request adjustments in the content of your website at www.whitehouse.org. On the webpage http://www.whitehouse.org/administration/lynne.asp appear photographs of the Honorable Lynne V. Cheney and a fictitious biographical statement about her.

It is important to avoid using her name and picture for the purposes of trade without her written consent, see N.Y. Civil Rights Law”

To protest their legal threats and harassment, April first is “Make Fun of the Cheneys Day.”
