Lyrics to the new Green Day song that’s at the top of the charts right now. From their new Album “American Idiot

Don’t wanna be an American idiot.
Don’t want a nation under the new media.
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mind-fuck America.
Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Where everything isn’t meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We’re not the ones who’re meant to follow.
For thats enough to argue.
Well maybe I’m the faggot America.
I’m not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along in the age of paranoia.
Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Where everything isn’t meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We’re not the ones who’re meant to follow.
For thats enough to argue.
Don’t wanna be an American idiot.
One nation controlled by the media.
Information Age of hysteria.
It’s going out to idiot America.
Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Where everything isn’t meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We’re not the ones who’re meant to follow.
For thats enough to argue.

I’m sorry, but no matter how you slice it, the French are just cool.

From the Guardian: “Police in Paris have discovered a fully equipped cinema-cum-restaurant in a large and previously uncharted cavern underneath the capital’s chic 16th arrondissement. Officers admit they are at a loss to know who built or used one of Paris’s most intriguing recent discoveries. “We have no idea whatsoever,” a police spokesman said.”
“Members of the force’s sports squad, responsible – among other tasks – for policing the 170 miles of tunnels, caves, galleries and catacombs that underlie large parts of Paris, stumbled on the complex while on a training exercise beneath the Palais de Chaillot, across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower.”
Let me see… the Republicans have: NASCAR. Uncool. Lame, in fact.
The French have Secret theaters and restaurants in underground catacombs beneath the city. Way too fucking cool.

Ah, Technology.

We have one of those high-tech bathrooms here at work where everything is automated. The toilet flushes by itself, you wave your hands under the soap dispenser for soap, and under the faucet for water, so you never have to touch anything unsanitary. Which is really cool, except when the technology breaks. For a while now there’s been one toilet that keeps power-flushing for quite a long time after you step out of the stall. Today while that was happening, the faucet I used wouldn’t shut off either, perhaps in solidarity. I waited a bit for the soap to chime in, also, but apparently it doesn’t have anything to say.

1982 Video Game high scorers…

Boing Boing has a really great post on Life magazine’s 1982 magazine spread on the hot teen craze, arcade video gaming, with the best of the arcade gamers meeting at the Twin Galaxies arcade in Ottumwa, Iowa to battle it out for the high score.
The picture they have of the geek kids is pretty classic, but what’s even better is that one of them, Leo Daniels, even has a website today. Check it out, because the best page is the photo gallery of the dude’s bachelor apartment. It’s exactly what you would expect from a guy who was a 1982 high scorer in video gaming.

Good Morning! Song to sing early in the morning

I made a couple different versions of this CD, and added some songs to it later. Originally I made this for my friends Mia and Ria, because they were talking about how Mia is a morning person and Ria isn’t. Mia likes to get up and putter around the house singing in the morning. So I thought I’d give her some songs to sing.

Things that have been sitting on my bookshelf forever that I’m dying to get to, but I keep getting diverted by one or the other book clubs I’m in. I think I may have to let one of them go, much as I hate the idea. I might have to be the women’s book club, since they seem to be switching the time to the evenings. When I joined, one of the attractions was that they met on Sunday afternoons.
