Home made flame throwers and marshmallow guns

Last year, I posted a link to instructions on making yourself a flame thrower. Here’s another site with different instructions, in case you want to do it yourself.

I think I’ll just stick with making my own marshmallow gun. Otherwise I’ll be setting myself on fire.

The site that hosts the marshmallow gun instructions is pretty interesting; it’s a collaborative how-to site, where you can upload your own how-tos with instructions, and comment on other peoples.

If you’re buying books for the holidays, consider taking a short drive up to the Noblesville Barnes and Noble on 37. (Stony Creek Marketplace, 17090 Mercantile Blvd., Noblesville, IN 46060 317-773-7952).
My mom works there part time now, and you can go in a visit her (find Pat Mineart and say “Hi, Steph’s Mom!) and she’ll help you find whatever you need for the holidays.

a Wikipedia entry via Kotte.org:
Aptronym, a word allegedly coined by United States newspaper columnist Franklin P. Adams, refers to a name that is aptly suited to its owner. Fictional examples of aptronyms include Mr. Talkative and Mr. Worldly Wiseman in John Bunyan’s The Pilgrim’s Progress.
One of my new cardiologists (who is taking over for Dr. Yee) is named Dr. Valentine.

Check out the pictures of Amy’s Birthday. We helped my friend Amy celebrate her birthday this year by visiting Chicago (from Indianapolis) to see the musical Wicked, and going out to eat at the Rainforest Cafe. We met up with all our friends at Millenium Park near the Cloud Gate sculpture, and then walked to the theatre from there. The Musical was really amazing; go and see it.

Walmart secret memo reveals hiring practices

According to the New York Times, a secret Walmart memo reveals the corporation had numerous plans to hold down expenses by engaging in unfair hiring practices and by trying to reduce employee benefits.
Also, two websites I’ve discovered recently focus entirely on Walmart news, and both have rss feeds. Visit Walmart Watch for reference materials and activism, or get the latest news from The Writing on the Wal blog.

RSS feed changes

I switched my RSS feed over to a feedburner feed, which will be more robust and will tie in my flickr photos into my feed. So if you’re subscribing to my RSS feed already, you might want to grab the feedburner link instead.

Also, I’m converting all my old static content into Movable Type, so some of my journal categories are wacky while I’m in the process, and there will be duplicates of some pages while I work. Eventually, I’ll get it all squared away.

Political Compass, revisited

I posted a link to this site back in 2003, but I thought I should mention it again. The Political Compass site measures where you fall on the political landscape, based on your answers to fiscal questions as well as social liberty questions. Rather than place you on a scale, though, it puts you on an axis. Very interesting.

And here’s where I landed back in 2003. It’s funny, because at the time, I was bitching about people calling me a hard-core lefty, and Scott’s encountering the same thing recently.
