Santorum is an idiot, part 2

Read the full remarks he made to the Associated Press here. They are more shocking than the edited quotes that appeared elsewhere. This man should not be in a leadership position in a political party.

1. He’s associating homosexuality with beastiality and pedophilia. Here’s the different between them: Consent. In the case of beastiality or child rape, neither the animal or the child can give informed consent to the sexual act. In either case, a cognitively-aware adult is imposing his sexual agenda on a being that can’t understand and/or doesn’t want the act. The animal or child is being harmed, that’s why it’s both immoral and illegal, and should remain so.
In the case of homosexuality, we have two adults that are both consenting. Totally different.
2. His take on the priest scandal in the Catholic Church is both ignorant and bizarre. “In this case, what we’re talking about, basically, is priests who were having sexual relations with post-pubescent men… We’re talking about a basic homosexual relationship… Which, again, according to the world view sense is a a perfectly fine relationship as long as it’s consensual between people.” The priests were sexually assaulting minors — young men under the age of consent, which made it statutory rape, and they were assaulting and coercing them — no consent involved — which made it forcible rape. That’s not a basic homosexual relationship.
Nobody, especially not gay people, thought that was “a perfectly fine relationship”.
3. He blamed the Catholic Church scandal on “liberalism” and goes further into “moral relativism” equating the two of them. Technically, nobody’s a “moral relativist” because it’s a bogus term invented by people who don’t have the cognitive ability to understand complex thought and who have misunderstood and dumbed down ethical philosophy. Regardless, he’s never made a case for why being “liberal” has anything to do with being a ‘relativist’.
4. “Every society in the history of man has upheld the institution of marriage as a bond between a man and a woman.” Bzzt. Wrong answer, Mr. Santorum. Go back to square one and restudy your world history. Here, start with one of my college world history textbooks.
5. Adultery? He’s not only saying that entering the bedrooms of gay people having sex and arresting them should be allowed by law, he’s saying that adulterers should be subject to this law, too. So the government will enter your bedroom and check that the opposite-sex person you’re in bed with is actually legally married to you? Think of the implications of that.
