house plans

I’m going to finish working on my living room, and open up the back door for entry and exit. Then I’m going to close off the extra entry doors and make them back into windows. Hopefully I’ll have all this done by spring, because at that point I’m going to put the house on the market and move.

Spike, the doggie host

Pepper came over to see Spike last night. Spike was quite the host. First he humped Pepper (I’ve never seen him do that before!) and then he peed on the carpet. Twice. Which makes him almost as good a host as I am. 🙂 I love my dog.

I think I should send Mark Ryden a picture of Spike. With his huge eyes, I think he would fit right into one of his paintings.

Doggie News

Spike went to the vet today. He got his first shot, and he got flea medicine. He also got some gluecose, because he has low blood sugar, which is common for tiny doggies. That’s why they shiver even when it’s not cold. He just has to have glucose three times a day at meals. Fortunately, it’s pretty easy to give to him. He’s sleeping now because he’s all worn out from the shot. We have to go back to the vet in three weeks. The vet also told me how to make a little doggie sweater for him, because he’s too small to wear the extra small size.

My Precious New Baby

Tonight after work I get to bring my brand new puppy Spike home. I think I have everything ready. We’ve got: kennel, baby gates, collar, leash, tie-up line for outside, puppy chow, canned puppy food, puppy biscuits, training treats, nylabones, chew bones, a kong toy, a stuffed hippo, a brush, a fine-tooth comb, puppy shampoo, tons of newpaper, cleaning supplies. I still need to buy a doggy bed, but I didn’t like the ones I saw, so I’ll shop for that today. And we have a vet appointment. Yup, I think I’m ready.

Missing Idgie, and visiting Spike

Whenever I’m home, I hear a noise, and think it’s Idgie. I start to look around, and then I remember. When I walk in the door after work, I open the door and say, “I’m home!” to the cat. I didn’t realize I did that every day until last night when I did it, and nobody came running. This is freaking me out.

I went over yesterday and played with Spike. He’s way too little to come home with me, but Jim, the guy who’s giving him to me, wants me to take him next Monday. That freaks me out worst than I’m already freaked out, because he’s too small to be away from his mom, and I don’t want to leave him alone all day. I want him, but I’m scared to death I’ll screw up and he’ll get sick or something. I think I’m going to try to take a week of vacation when I first bring him home so he can get used to me and the house.

Look, it’s Tim Goldman, a friend from college. At my job, we’ve been looking for an illustrator to do some work for us, and Rich was talking about this friend of a friend, a guy named Tim Goldman who lives in New York and does great artwork… and then it dawned on me it was the same guy I went to college with. So, howdy, Tim!

Goodby, Idgie

I had to put Idgie to sleep this morning. There was nothing they could do for her; her kidneys were already in failure and they couldn’t operate. I just lost my best friend.

My cat Idgie is very sick

My cat Idgie is very sick. It appears from x-rays that she had kidney stones. She’s staying at the vet’s tonight, and tomorrow we have to have another x-ray to make sure that’s what the problem is. If so, I may have to have her put to sleep.
