Colony collapse – still a problem. "Disturbing evidence that honeybees are in terminal decline has emerged from the United States where, for the fourth year in a row, more than a third of colonies have failed to survive the winter."

It's no big deal when men do it, but it's a national news story when women do? Come on, people.

This is a guy who claims gay people can be cured and is behind practically every homophobic piece of legislation in the last 20 years. And he took a male prostitute on vacation with him. Uh huh.

A large chunk of the city turned out for a massive role-playing game to grant the wish of a 13-year-old kid with liver cancer who dreamed of being a superhero. That is awesome. Talk about using your powers for good.

Not enough that Jackson, Mississippi comes across badly in the book "The Help." They want to maintain their status as bigots into the 21st Century as well.

Heartbreaking. "They raped her as she was dying, and they confessed to it. They plead guilty to rape, to rape, to raping her as she was dying, and the Philadelphia Daily News can’t even bring itself to use the fucking word."

Are they really bothered by the content, or are they bothered that it's a book about black people? It's not the 1920's anymore; we don't tolerate wearing white hoods in Indiana nowadays.

Good information – and an important point. "This fall, House seats are up for election. The Democratic majority, and our community's ability to protect ourselves from harmful legislation, is precarious. Currently Democrats hold a 52-48 majority in the House. The loss of even two seats compromises our ability to stop a constitutional amendment from advancing. The loss of three or more seats will guarantee that the Indiana Legislature will pass a resolution to write our families out of our own Constitution. We can prevent this from happening by spreading the word to our community that we must get involved in local House races to ensure a Democratic House majority for the next two years."

A very long article trashing social networking and how it's "affecting the nature of friendship." I disagree completely, but don't really have time right now to write out all the reasons why he's wrong.

"It can happen at the most inopportune moment: in the middle of a delightful conversation at a party, at a restaurant with new friends, while you’re lunching with co-workers, during a family meal. Someone makes a wild generalization about women who get abortions, and you’re shocked. You try to remain civilized but it’s difficult. To make matters worse, you’re not sure how to reply."
