Things Republicans say for $1,000, Alex

Interesting, what some people will say, and then accuse others of talking about “hate”…
“Get rid of the guy. Impeach him, censure him, assassinate him.”
— Rep. James Hansen (R-UT), talking about President Clinton, as reported by journalist Steve Miner of KSUB radio who overheard his conversation, 11-01-98
“The homosexual blitzkrieg has been better planned and executed than Hitler’s.”
— Rep. William Dannemeyer (R-CA), The New Republic, 08-01-94
“My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times building.”
— Ann Coulter, New York Observer, 08-26-02

Bush can’t tell difference between women & men

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President George W. Bush has marked International Women’s Week by paying tribute to women reformers — but one of those he cited is really a man.
“Earlier today, the Libyan government released Fathi Jahmi. She’s a local government official who was imprisoned in 2002 for advocating free speech and democracy,” the president said in a speech at the White House on Friday.
The only problem was that, by all other accounts, “she” is in fact “he”.
“Definitely male,” said Alistair Hodgett, spokesman for the human rights advocacy group Amnesty International, whose representatives tried to see Jahmi in prison during a recent visit to Libya.

Why do Republicans hate their children?

David Knight, son of the state senator who was the author of the California ballot measure that banned same-sex marriage, defied his father’s law and wed his partner of 10 years Tuesday in a quiet ceremony attended by just two friends in San Francisco City Hall.
Atop the grand staircase of City Hall’s rotunda, Knight and Joe Lazzaro of Baltimore exchanged rings and were pronounced spouses for life one month after Sen. William “Pete” Knight, R-Palmdale, proclaimed San Francisco’s same- sex marriages “nothing more than a sideshow.”
Knight, a shy 42-year-old cabinetmaker and former Air Force fighter pilot, broke his long silence on his father’s politics in 2000 to denounce Prop. 22 and talk about the pain it caused his family. He had told his father about six years earlier that he is gay.

Here’s the thing about Bush….

I truly believe that George Bush knows where Osama bin Laden is, has known since 9/11/2001, and intends to “find” him at exactly the opportune moment prior to the election to boost his poll ratings. And I can promise you that if it happens exactly as I’m predicting, I will seriously think, once again, about leaving the country. Along with my new leather chair.

Courtesy of http://billmon.org/ a big list of Bush Flip-Flops since he’s so busy accusing Kerry of changing his mind. Billmon is a great place for getting comparison quotes from various White House members on what they said back then, versus what they’re saying now.

Marriage Constitutionally Defined as Between Man and Woman, or Two Hot Women

WASHINGTON – Congress today ratified the 28th amendment to the United States Constitution, which formally defined marriage in the United States as “a union of a man and a woman, or two hot women.”
Conservatives are hailing this move a great victory for the preservation of traditional marriage values. Said Senator Rick Santorum (R-Pennsylvania), “The attempts of gays to subvert the definition of marriage is nothing less than an outright attack on one of our most precious institutions. If two men to to be able to marry, it would undermine one of civilizations most fundamental truths. Two women, however, would be pretty hot.”
Added Santorum, “I mean, can you imagine two fine blonde chicks with big racks goin’ at it on their wedding night, with both of them wearing the shreds of their bridal gowns? How fucking hot would that be?”

Bush calls for amendment to bar gay marriage
WASHINGTON – President Bush called yesterday for a constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriage, pushing an explosive cultural issue to the forefront of the 2004 presidential campaign.

In a brief announcement, Bush urged Congress to pass an amendment to the Constitution “defining and protecting marriage as a union of a man and a woman as husband and wife.”

The move followed actions in Massachusetts and San Francisco, where the mayor recently began issuing marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples. Massachusetts’ highest court ruled in November that same-sex couples have the same right as heterosexuals to marry and ordered the state to begin issuing marriage licenses to them in May.
