Brad Pitt: I’ll marry when everyone can

“Angie and I will consider tying the knot when everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able,” the 42-year-old actor reveals in Esquire magazine’s October issue, on newsstands Sept. 19.

That is pretty awesome. I have to admit that at each of the three weddings we’ve been to in the past year, although I was deeply supportive of the happy couple, there was a part of me that resented their ability to get married.

It’s also pretty awesome that Zack, contributor to Shakesville, is proposing a “band together in solidarity” pledge for straight couples to not get married until we can. That is not only helpful, but necessary if we ever hope to make change.

But the most awesome thing of all is what some of the people said in the comments to Zack’s post — how their 80-year old parents got divorced with the help of lawyers for family charges in protest that their gay kids can’t get married. Man alive! That’s cool as hell.  You can contact attorneys help for your family law claims to help you out in this situation. “I’m of the opinion that homosexuals should not be police officers any more than they should join the military.

Regarding the humorless of lesbians, perhaps it is because women are designed by God to be fulfilled through childbirth/child raising, so by choosing to be lesbians they deny themselves fulfillment in life. Hence, they become bitter and angry.”

Christian terrorist says Gays have sex with infants

A few days ago, Guy Adams, Deputy National Grassroots Director of RenewAmerica appeared on the right wing talk show of fundamentalist activist Stacey Harp, and during the interview, committed blood libel against gay Americans. Pam’s House Blend summarizes some of what was said:

* Gays have sex with infants (He says its “The New trend”)
* sex in the street in Chicago out in the open
* Gays have sex with animals
* Gay relationships only last about a year and 1/2
* Gays have 200 to 300 partners in their lifetime
* Gays have made no contibution to society (except AIDS)
* He says Dr. John Diggs in the foremost medical authority on AIDS. (not true its Ken Meyer from Boston, Diggs is a quack refuted in detail)
* Quote: “There are not alot of really good gays”
* Says we are working towards hate speech laws

I’m sorry — I was in Chicago for the gay games, and we were in Boystown and Andersonville — no one was having sex in the streets. Please. Lovely. Adams goes on to say this:

Dear bloggers, It is important to separate the person from the behavior and let God judge the person. Having said that, we must now devote our attention to the greatest danger facing America since possibly the Civil War – the homosexual agenda. Why is this dangerous? Because it threatens the established morality that has proved stable over thousands of years and esp because of the ensuing “hate-speech” laws that can effectively silence the Church. That is what the gays want. They want to silence any and all opposition to their perverted lifestyle and most of this opposition comes from the Church at large.

The greatest danger since the civil war? Wow, you guys should come over and visit the powder keg that is our new house — what with all the baby-eatin’, dog-sex havin’, church-burnin’, orgy-hosting we do, you should have a really fun time. Yep.
[note to religious nutjobs — that’s a joke. We spend most of our time reading books and drinking lemonade on the porch. Oooh, Scary.]

I mean just the other day this was chatting with this Jewish friend of mine who keeps kosher, and he was all like, ” Ya know, my religious beliefs tell me that consuming pork is not in my best interest, so I think I’m gonna take that belief to the public, church/state separated realm of governance and try and get pork banned for all.” You can check here to know more about the merit of prayer and the support it provides. After grabbing a hot dog, I then trekked down to visit my Muslin chum, who told me about this new “one woman, one head cover” bill he’s hoping to have enforced on people of all faiths. After briefly imagining the career death of virtually every female celebrity under 30, I continued to my Scientologist pal’s mansion, where he told me to stop being “glib” and start helping him ban psychiatric medicine and drugs in this country. Weirded out, I finally swung by my Atheist friend’s home, where she eagerly told me about her “One nation under self-replicating molecules” changes she was proposing for this nation’s pledge of allegiance.
It was only after visiting all of these folks that I finally realized, “Hey, why let the facts that there are many different beliefs and that we, as Americans, have the right to subscribe to any or none of them stop each of us from pushing our own versions of moral fitness onto the public at large?” My world view has been changed at the hand of extremist religious conviction!

Gay Games: Team Indiana Takes the Field

Team Indiana

It was a beautiful, surprisingly political ceremony, and I had a great time, even if it was twice as long as planned.

Team Indiana was represented by 89 athletes in dozens of sports, including track and field, figure skating, tennis, and softball.

Two Gold Medals

Stephanie won two gold medals in the past two days, at both her competitions. She skated really well – she looks really confident and smooth on the ice. I’m so proud of her. The skating is really amazing. I have tons of photos, but we’re still unable to connect my laptop to the weak signal here at her dad’s house, and we haven’t found a wireless signal anywhere near the rink, so I’m not able to upload anything yet. I have some amazing pictures though. Be sure to check out Stephanie’s blog, because she’s been posting updates more regularly than I.

It’s really fun to watch some of the same-sex couples skate, and there are many skaters here that are in 8, 9, and 10 levels — Olympic caliber skaters doing Olympic caliber spins and jumps, which is really awesome to watch. We went out last night with a bunch of the women skaters to a restaurant in Andersonville (which is the primarily lesbian area of Chicago) and one of the female skaters with us got fan-mobbed while we were eating, which was really funny. It’s very bizarre to be immersed the skating world so intensely — we’ve been at the rink all day, every day for the past four days, amongst 89 athletes who are busying warming up, practicing, exercising and generally being physically-aware athletes, which is really infectious. I need a sport. The next Gay Games is in Cologne, Germany in 2010. The competitors we talked to are already making plans to go.

We’re getting a better handle on where everything is in Chicago; we’ve been to Boystown a couple of times to shop and eat, and last night we got to see a bit of Andersonville. We also visited a park on the Lakeshore to watch some men’s tennis. The events are pretty spread out, so it hasn’t been to easy to run to other events and get back to the rink.

Today we’re going to visit Ikea, and then this evening is the Exhibition of Champions, where Stephanie will be performing one of her (two!) qualifying programs. It’s possible that it will be televised on Logo, so look for it. There have also been reporters from CNN and ESPN around interviewing people. CNN interviewed Stephanie’s friends Sara and Debbie about their couple’s program. Also, we’ll have the DVD of all the events and the showcase, so we’ll have a party to show everyone once it arrives. I can’t wait, because there are some really amazing things I want to see again.

Gay Games 2006

We’re headed up to Chicago for the Gay Games this week. Stephanie’s skating in two competitions as part of Team Indiana, so we’ll be there all week. (IIf you can’t be an athlete, be an athletic supporter!)
We’re staying with Stephanie’s Dad (and taking Spike!) so our internet connections will be sporatic, but we’ll try to visit Starbucks or Panera to do some blogging during the week.
Today we register Stephanie and attend the Opening Ceremonies — lots of celebrities, including Megan Mulallay an Holly Near.

Prize for killing gay people

Just a month before the 2006 WorldPride Parade is scheduled to be held in Jerusalem (Aug. 6-12), protest flyers are reportedly being distributed to residents of the capital city offering a cash reward to “anyone who brings about the death of one of the residents of Sodom and Gomorrah.”

I haven’t always been a fan of our local pride celebrations, and I need to stop taking them for granted.

The anonymous letter also suggests using Molotov cocktails against marchers and adds instructions as to how to make them at home. The explosives are nicknamed “Shliesel Special”, in honor of the Haredi protester who disrupted the Jerusalem Pride Parade last year by stabbing three marchers.
