Paula Cole: Mississippi

This song falls under the heading of really awesome music I’ve rediscovered in my music library recently. Of course I was listening to Paula Cole something like 10 years ago (1996 – so 15 years ago.) At a particular time in my life when I was completely in love with a woman who was in love with one of my exes – so the “piece of my heart on the sole of your shoe” line really hit home with me.

If you want the mp3 – Amazon has it: Mississippi (Album Version) [Explicit]

I’m skeptical sometimes of the lyrics you find out there on the lyrics sites – I wonder if these are quite accurate? I’ll have to pull out the album and see if it has lyrics in the notes.

I know I’m big and proud all over
not just on the stage
my secret self has many sides
that laugh and crush and stain
I’m red and thick like fire
I like it from behind
but round to black
and red to white
I’m pure and sad and silent

CHORUS:
I know I’ve
gotta piece of my heart
on the sole of your shoe
I’ve got a little bit of thunder
trapped inside of a cloud
the dog in you
spit me out into the Mississippi

I know who can love my many selves
the wife, the bitch, the Rapunzel
the one who cries
and calls for you
the one who is always alone

chorus

oh Mississippi
come and wash my pain away
oh Mississippi
come and take my pain away
I feel I’m drowning
I feel I’m drowning
I feel I’m
I feel I’m
dying

chorus (3 times)

Kickstarter Project: Double Masterpiece: A Nerdy & Dirty Comedy Hip Hop Album

My cousin Sean (AKA ‘Bearclaw’) is in a comedy hip-hop group called Le Roy (see their website) – and they’re trying to make an album. So they’ve set up a kickstarter page to raise money – pre-order a CD and potentially get a bunch of stuff like t-shirts and stickers along with it. Or go all out and plunk down some cash and they’ll do a show for you.

Not only is Le Roy promoting their recording efforts, they’ve also got a nice article written about them in the Quad City Times, too.

I figure since I’ve bought every Glee album every produced, kicking in a pledge for them and giving them a little extra exposure is the least I can do to rehab my music karma.

Rainbow Noise: IMMA HOMO

I cannot wait for these guys to put out this song as an mp3, because I want to drive around town with my truck windows down blasting this on the stereo.

“RainbowNoise is an entertainment company that specializes in marketing lesbian and gay talent to commercial and mainstream audiences without compromising the artists’ individual style or gender presentation.”

They have a YouTube channel and a website. Looks like they’re getting started promoting, but this is blowing up on gay sites right now.

Holy crap. I’m seeing this movie. On the day it comes out. I put a reminder on my calendar, even. Wanna go with?

UPDATE: Yeah, after I read the reviews and heard how god-awful sexist it was, I didn’t go. So that was a letdown.

When I was a kid I thought it was the coolest thing that Dick Tracy could call people on his watch and see them on the tiny TV screen, and I thought it would be awesome if, some day far in future, I could have a watch like that that really worked.

I was reminded of that today by XKCD.com:

Flying Cars

Yeah, I can talk to people on video from a device I carry in my pocket – that is awesome. But it’s even cooler that Dick Tracy couldn’t play Angry Birds.

2022-03-12 Update: Eleven years later, now I can talk to my watch. I am Dick Tracy.
