it seems like that fuel mileage calculation doesn’t take into account the fuel used while it charges from an electrical outlet – that is, the fuel that the power plant supplying that outlet uses to charge the car’s battery. i’ll be interested to see if the EPA finds a way to take that into account when they do the fuel mileage numbers.

That’s a very good point – electricity is not free, after all. The mileage needs to reflect the true cost of consumption.
