Georgia Vegan Protestors Arrested for writing down License Plate

In Georgia, the Department of Homeland Security was conducting surveillance of anti-war rallies and vegan protests. At the vegan protest, Caitlin Childs, a vegetarian activist, realized that she was under surveillance and wrote down the license place of the DHS agent who was monitoring her. She was then arrested for doing so.
Note, this is a different story than one I posted earlier about the DHS monitoring a Vegan gathering here in Indiana. That story came to light due to the Freedom of Information Act.
Gee, I feel safer already. Don’t you?

What? No Christian Terrorists?

Of course they don’t consider Christian Terrorists like bomber Eric Rudolph and the Anthrax killer “Terrorists.” Because these are the people who give money to Republican election campaigns. Can’t offend the people who put you in office, even if they do blow shit up and kill democrats and gay people.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) does not list right-wing domestic terrorists and terrorist groups on a document that appears to be an internal list of threats to the nation’s security.

According to the list — part of a draft planning document obtained by CQ Homeland Security — between now and 2011 DHS expects to contend primarily with adversaries such as al Qaeda and other foreign entities affiliated with the Islamic Jihad movement, as well as domestic radical Islamist groups.

It also lists left-wing domestic groups, such as the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) and the Earth Liberation Front (ELF), as terrorist threats, but it does not mention anti-government groups, white supremacists and other radical right-wing movements, which have staged numerous terrorist attacks that have killed scores of Americans. Recent attacks on cars, businesses and property in Virginia, Oregon and California have been attributed to ELF.

Texas Democrats protest redistricting

Here’s the skinny on what happened in Texas. Every ten years, new voting districts are redrawn in conjunction with the census. Districts were redrawn two years ago, and they didn’t come out the way the Republicans wanted (giving them more votes). So the Republicans tried to introduce a bill to redistrict again this year, to screw over the Democrats. And to kill the bill, the Democrats had to make sure there wasn’t a quorum. So they left town and went to Oklahoma. So the Republicans called in the National Department of Homeland Security (the agency to prevent terrorism) to track down where the Democrats were.

Are you happy with this? Is it okay that they used a National Agency in a way it was never intended to increase their advantage in the Texas statehouse? That’s your money they used.
