Honestly, I don’t find the counter-protest signs funny. While I understand what they were attempting to do, hatred is not something to make fun of. Too many people feel that Westboro is a rogue church, but the only thing that makes them unique, compared to others, is that they are more outspoken. In some ways, I think Fred Phelps is helping the gay rights cause by showing how extreme the hatred can be.
But the most disturbing image I found in that collection of photo’s was number 2, which showed a young boy, probably standing with his mother, holding a “God Hates Fags” sign. How long will it be before we see similar signs in Arizona saying “God Hates Mexicans”?
I know I’m probably analyzing things too much, but part of me wonders how the hatred of Jews in Germany before WW2 started and how many people just laughed at the concept. Wil
