Republicans, the United Nations and the Tsunami

Conservative extremist Michael Savage says we shouldn’t be sending any money to Asia for relief efforts.
Conservative extremist Rush Limbaugh says “these things do tend to get blown out of proportion.”

Conservative extremist blogger J. Grant Swank, Jr. says celebrities should shut up about their contributions (Sandra Bullock– $1 million) but that it’s okay that Bush is making a big production of his $10,000.
Conservative extremist cartoonist Chuck Asay trashes the United Nations for pointing out that our $15 million pledge was stingy, and suggests they should be grateful for our help in Iraq, too, even though that we caused that disaster ourselves looking for the mythical WMD.
And they there are those stalwart patriots at the Free Republic, who think we should “Let the ragheads take care of their own” and that the tsunami happened because “God is angry with the wickedness of fornication and sodomy.”
And meanwhile, the heart-wrenching images of destruction from the worst natural disaster in recent memory keep rolling in.
Republicans and compassion just don’t seem to go together, do they?
UPDATE: And then there’s what Tom Delay had to say about the Tsunami:

Everyone who listens to these words of mine, and acts on them, will be like a wise man, who built his house on a rock: The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew, and buffeted the house, but it did not collapse; it has been set solidly on rock. And everyone who listens to these words of mine, but does not act on them, will be like a fool who built his house on sand: The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew, and buffeted the house, and it collapsed and was completely ruined.

Implying, of course, that if the Asian folks had been Christians, their houses would have remained standing during the Tsunami. That’s just great.
